Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
One of the hobby’s most sought after rookie cards and originating from the landmark inaugural Parkhurst issue that ushered in the modern era of hockey card collecting, we have a highly desirable 1951-52 Gordie Howe Parkhurst card, with this especially pleasing example encapsulated and graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Depicted during his first of four consecutive NHL scoring championships that began in 1950-51, Mr Hockey would lead a talented Red Wings squad which included a young Terry Sawchuk to a Stanley Cup victory the season this coveted cardboard was issued. Off-center top-to-bottom and just slightly left-to-right, the card displays well for the assigned grade, with an almost flawless reverse and just slightly askew registration. Of the 472 Howe rookies graded by PSA, our examples sits within the top 30 percent, with just a single Mint 9 example topping the population report.
