Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Close to one-third of the Neilson's Chocolate 120-card set from 1922 is offered here, with the issue considered one of the more popular Canadian candy efforts, due in part to the fact that the cards are similar to the American Caramel E120 release, a favorite among hobbyists. Type II versions are on thick card stock and do not have numbers on the front, distinguishing them from Type I examples. Low grade group is dominated by Poor, but still acceptable cards, with multiple light creases and rounded corners observed on most. No paper loss to report on the (similar) backs which inform that "a photograph of a prominent player in action" came in Neilson's Big League Bars. The lineup is led by, (in order of book value), Hall of Famers Grover Alexander, Leon ("Goose") Goslin, George Sisler, Frankie Frisch, Burleigh Grimes, Zach Wheat and George Kelly. Fantastic thought-provoking images await the high bidder.
Eight cards, at Fair, present the best among the rest; Boeckel, Cadore, Callaghan, Caveney, Cole, Ganss, Gharrity and Walker.
