Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Simply a glorious head protector from years gone by for boxers in training, preparing to take punches in the serious ring without the benefit of such padding. Offered is a vintage Reach example, in glorious condition, with the Reach name stamped on the forehead (along with “WC”), and with the tan leather padding (which protected the face and ears) and all the straps intact with absolutely no rips, holes, or tears. The leather shows just normal wear from less than normal beatings. AJ Reach was the largest manufacturer of sporting goods in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, based in Philadelphia, but in 1934 sold their properties to the rival Spalding company. A sewn-on tag on the strap reads as “Reach, The Sign of Quality”. Awesome vintage headgear up for grabs here.
