Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
The Soviet Union would capture gold at the IIHF World Championships held in Finland in 1982, with Czechoslovakia taking home silver and Canada bronze, but in play involving strictly Euro teams, Sweden would grab the silver. Offered is a fine-looking European Championships silver medal presented to members of the Swedish team when the tournament wrapped up. Measuring 2 ¾” in diameter and featuring a hockey-playing image on one side and the IIHL name and colored logo on the reverse, we see only a small scattering of marks on this precious medal, although the original accompanying ribbon is no longer included. These European medals were issued to European participants in the World Championships until 1991 when the practice was stopped.
