Nothing like a classic Vladislav Tretiak game-worn Soviet National team jersey, narrowed down as worn during the 1976 Canada Cup and 1977 World Championships, to get the blood flowing in any collector who appreciates what the great Russian goalie meant to International hockey in those days. We're talking about a fellow who first introduced himself to most North Americans during the 1972 Summit Series, followed up by the '74 Summit Series, had folks shaking their heads during the 1975 New Year's Eve game against the Montreal Canadiens, and continued to frustrate shooters from every team he came up against, well into the 1980s, all capped off by the ultimate honor of being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989. We have a Tretiak game-worn CCCP jersey with a wonderful provenance from Warren "Butch" Williams, who played for Team USA at the 1976 Canada Cup. Williams asked Tretiak to trade jerseys with him while at the tournament, and Tretiak agreed that the next time they would meet, he would do so, which was the 1977 World Championships where Williams again played for Team USA. And the best part is – we've photo-matched his story! We have a photo of Tretiak at the 1976 Canada Cup, with the jersey still having his nameplate on, where on top of the second red lozenge on the back from left there is a piece of the rubberized white missing. This also shows up on a photo of Tretiak with the National Team in 1976-77, minus the nameplate on the jersey which is how the jersey is today, with the evidence of the former nameplate. Additional photo-matching on the 1976-77 photo includes wear to the white rubberized material on the left side back hem and a scratch between the first and second lozenge. Truly a historic gamer from the great Russian goaltender, and comes complete with a signed LOA from Warren "Butch" Williams.
