Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Absolutely awesome Detroit Red Wings game-worn wool jersey dates from the late-1950s offered here, with at least 7 vintage team repairs throughout, compliments of the ice wars. This rare and classic wool beauty has Olympic tagging and a size 44 flag tag in the back of the neck. The Red Wings crest sewn on the front is the one that was worn with the team's white wool sweaters and the Red Wings are known to have worn a set like this between circa 1958 and 1960. Johnny Wilson, Earl Reibel, and Barry Cullen are among the players who wore #8 for Detroit during that era, and this particular gamer features a team repair on the front, three on the left sleeve, a couple more on the right sleeve, and a substantial one on the back hem. Some noticeable pilling, slight puckering on the number, and yellowing of the white striping is also to mention, while an unrepaired small hole is near the right cuff. Just an incredible opportunity to own a classic game-worn wool jersey from a truly treasured time in hockey history, a time when Howe, Ullman, Delvecchio and the player who wore number 8 wowed fans in Original Six arenas throughout the league.
