Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Pre-war baseball card collectors will be intrigued by this trio of strip cards, with Casey Stengel’s presence highlighting a five-card W515-1 affair from 1923 when the future legendary manager was an outfielder with the New York Giants. Two small tears, (a quarter-inch and an eighth of an inch) affect the bottom edge of the Stengel card, with an additional smaller tear along the lower edge of the nearby Jack Scott (#25) card. The corners at the far left of the strip are rounded but there are no creases to report. The same holds true, (no creases), for the two five-card strips from 1928 (W513). “Smiling” Bill Terry and Paul Waner are featured on the one, which includes card #s 66 to 70, while the other, (#s 76 to 80), is highlighted by an image of New York Yankee 2nd baseman Tony Lazzeri. Dandy chance here to land three strips with one swoop!
