Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
“He shoots, he scores!” cried Foster Hewitt, and multitudes of hockey fans listening to radios and television across Canada either cheered or groaned as the legendary broadcaster called the games from Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Offered is a nice black & white photo measuring 3 ½” x 5” of a young Foster at the microphone, with his signature in blue ballpoint pen and authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA. Foster would retire from Hockey Night in Canada in 1963 when he handed the reins to his son Bill, but famously would come out of retirement in 1972 when Canada and the Soviet Union met in the classic Summit Series. His “Henderson has scored for Canada” call ranks right up there with “He shoots, he scores!” Foster, inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1965, passed away 20 years later in 1985 at the age of 82.
