Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Wonderful Original Six arena banner from one of the NHL's richest and oldest rivalries, this "Toronto" flag is the one that represented the Maple Leafs at the old Detroit Olympia, the Red Wings' home arena from 1927 to 1979. This huge blue nylon flag is nicely preserved and measures a shade under 4' x 6' with "Toronto" sewn on in individual white letters. "American Flag and Banner Co." manufacturer's tagging with its Michigan Avenue Detroit address remains on the white canvas portion on the hoist end of the banner, which hung in the Original Six arena and was obtained when the Olympia closed after Red Wings played their final game there on December 15, 1979. Comes with a signed letter of provenance.
