Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Jacques Plante's amazing 1958-59 Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup champions team-signed game-used stick displays loads and loads of red goalpost paint transfer high on the back of the shaft. The fact that Jacques, who died in 1986, kept this team-signed gamer with his original tape jobs on the knob, paddle and blade and gifted it to his goddaughter leads us to believe that it was a game-used stick of personal significance to the legendary goaltender. "Plante" is stamped on the shaft of the deceased HOFer's CCM gamer used at the height of his Vezina Trophy run that coincided with the Habs' record streak of five straight Cup wins. Jean Beliveau, Dickie Moore and deceased HOFers Maurice Richard, Boom Boom Geoffrion and Tom Johnson have all signed twice, with a dozen signatures on the shaft and the autographs of 25 members of the team on a pair of white tape strips on the back of the paddle. Blake, Harvey, Reardon and Henri Richard are among the other HOF autographs. An incredible piece of hockey history from the height of the Habs' dynasty and Plante's reign as the greatest goalie in the game. “Coupe Stanley 1958-59” is written at the top of the two multi-signed bands of white tape that were applied to the back side of the paddle and signed in blue ballpoint by members of the Canadiens, who won their record fourth Stanley Cup in a row that season.
The signatures all have their respective players’ uniform number to the left and moving from left to right, up from the heel towards the upper band of black tape the white tape strands are signed by Plante, Harvey, Beliveau, Hicke, Backstrom, Geoffrion, Maurice Richard, Johnson, Turner, Moore, Provost, McDonald, Henri Richard, Talbot, Bonin, Langlois, Goyette, Cushenan, Marshall, Pronovost and Hodge, along with trainers Larry Aubut and Hector Dubois, as well as deceased HOFers Kenny Reardon and coach Toe Blake, who has signed along the top.
The autographs on the shaft include big ones applied by Maurice Richard and Jean Beliveau, along with the likes of Goyette, Johnson, Marshall and Hicke on the front, and Geoffrion and Moore among the three on the back.
Two more strips of white tape were applied to the back of the blade with the Canadiens’ 1959 semi-final and final playoff series opponents and the results of the games against the Chicago Black Hawks and Toronto Maple Leafs handwritten in blue ballpoint.
The black tape job on the blade has a long loose strand at the toe. The black tape job at the top of the paddle also has a loose strand at the top.
