Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

A superior and breathtaking offering which was obtained directly from Mr. Henri Richard, this stunning Canadiens red road jersey was worn by the Habs' valiant captain as he wound down his wondrous Hall of Fame career. After etching his name into the record books for having helped the Canadiens to a Stanley Cup for an 11th time the previous spring, Henri donned this fabulous stretchy knit jersey by Wilson during the 1973-74 season, his second to last. A faded and no longer decipherable size in ballpoint was added to the company tag in the collar, with the sweater measuring out to size 48. Everything is sewn-on in nice tackle twill, including the captain's "C" and a very seldom-seen white-on-red tackle twill nameplate. With a classic blue-striped garter-style fight strap sewn in the tail, the jersey shows some lovely game use, highlighted by nine small team repairs on the front, nine on the sleeves (including two inch-long jobs and two dime-size) and eight on the back. A couple of good sticks marks on the belly, a few more on the sleeves, a few good burns and some great interior "pills" are also enhancing, while a six-inch faded strip beneath the blue stripe on the front is to mention, along with the slightly crimpled Canadiens tricolor crest. The jersey is photo-matched to the black mark in the right area of the team's crest. With shocking vibrant colors and what looks to be the original lace making its way through the six eyelets, the jersey will have serious Canadiens/jersey/ Richard enthusiasts excited "to the max" or close to it. Henri Richard's signed letter of authenticity will be included with this sensational treasure. Please take note that this lot may be subject to a silent reserve.
