One of only 45 players in the intervening century of NHL hockey to eclipse the 500-goal plateau, Jean Beliveau summited the total and joined fellow hockey immortals during his final NHL season, in 1970-71. The grace and speed Le Gros Bill displayed skating up and down NHL ice surfaces was always done while wearing CCM Tackaberry skates, with this photo-matched pair used to score his 500th goal considered the most significant ever offered from the legend’s magnificent career. The milestone goal came during a memorable match on February 11, 1971, when at 6:42 of the second period, Beliveau slid the puck past Gilles Gilbert to join The Rocket, Golden Jet and Mr Hockey as the only 500-goal scorers up until that time. Size 9 CCM Prolite Tacks models with intact laces, the left skate feature’s a size 11 1/3 blade, while the right, a size 11. A capital “B” has also been written on the underside of each boot, with “4” handwritten twice within each skate’s interior boot. Originally obtained from his personal collection, a signed LOA from Jean Beliveau will accompany these important milestone skates.
Most likely used for the remainder of the 1970-71 season and playoffs, great game use is exhibited on the skates, with numerous scratches and cuts over the toe sections, with black shellac added over the toes and along each boot. There is also surface loss to the leather over the tendon guards from tape used each game. The blades also show use, but are free of rusting. A trio of included numeric images from Jean’s 500th goal night (Feb 11, 1971) have been matched to the particular folding pattern of the leather on the exterior of the right boot.
