According to Mr. Gillies, this would be one of the jerseys he wore during his Rookie season of 1974-75. Here For a bit of hockey history, here’s an old-school durene Islanders jersey that Clark Gillies wore early in his NHL career. Although he was hardly an obscure player on Long Island, having been chosen fourth overall by the Islanders in the 1974 draft, for some reason his name was misspelled “Gilles” on the back of the jersey. The curious mistake aside, Gillies’ erroneous name was sewn directly onto the jersey. This wonderful blue laceup sweater shows nice game wear with board burns and paint transfer on the sleeves. Made by Rawlings, this Size 50 features its original neck tag. The jersey has a tiny loop fight strap and features light inside pilling, along with puck marks and stick marks on the sleeves. They don’t make them like that any more, that’s for sure. This marvelous jersey from the Islanders’ early days is a great opportunity for jersey collectors and it comes with Clark Gillies’ signed letter of authenticity.
