Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Representing his professional hockey career that spanned well over a decade during the glorious Original Six era, we have a large collection of interesting items that all hail directly from the family of noteworthy Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Black Hawks star, Tod Sloan. Included, we have photos, autographs, keepsakes and memorial items, highlighted by a circa late-1930/early-1940s “Falcons” hockey team cabinet photo (8” x 10”) that pictures Sloan (newsprint photo inserted) and HOFer George Armstrong. Next, we have a photo of the 1948 Falconbridge-Garson baseball team with Sloan, along with a matching jacket patch, over 140 signed hockey cards (modern) along with signed low grade examples of his 1951-52 and 1953-54 Parkhurst cards and his 1959-60 Topps (2). There are also over 2 dozen signed photos, and many more wonderful items. An LOA from the Sloan family will accompany.
Also included in this neat Tod Sloan lot, we have a letter written by Sloan to a fan who requested information about legendary player Bill Barilko, with Sloan giving a personal opinion on the tragic figure. Next, we have an NHL Oldtimers signed tribute book from 2016 with over 50 signatures including Dick Duff, four different “alumni” and “get well” greeting cards with signatures from Bob Nevin, Wally Stanowski, Harry Howell, Pete Conacher, Howie Morenz Jr and others, an original pencil drawing of Sloan from 2004 (6” x 8 ½”), a letter regarding his 1960-61 contract dated July 13, 1960, two vintage photos including one showing Sloan as a child dressed up playing Cowboys and Indians while the second pictures him in his St Michaels Majors sweater (2” x 3”), a vintage felt crest with sewn on “F”, most likely from his days early-on with the Falcons, a “League Champs” 1952 crest for softball, a pair of mini-sticks with “Tod Sloan” handwritten on each, both dated 1948, a framed (12 ½” x 15 ½”) modern photo of Sloan with his wife, a framed (10 ½” x 13”) Member of Parliament certificate from 2016, three scrapbooks, a ton of correspondence from those seeking autographs, Black Hawks alumni golf tournament booklets, and much more! The signed photos are mostly modern, with a good selection of different images. Please note that shipping for this large lot will be substantial, and it should be further noted that the items were kept in a smoking home, with a lingering scent still present.
