Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
The singing of O’Canada from coast to coast occurred directly after the conclusion of the Summit Series in 1972, with our entire nation completely enthralled by the victorious battle for world hockey supremacy. Hailing from the collection of legendary HOF member and participant Jean Ratelle – who saw action in six of the eight contests, we have his personal team-signed copy of the Daniel Parry lithograph entitled, “O’Canada”. At approx 24” x 25” (exposed), Team Canada is wonderfully depicted lined-up during the anthem proceeding Game 8, with each signing below in pencil including Ratelle, along with Dryden, Park, Savard, Lapointe, Cournoyer, Clarke, Gilbert, Perreault, Mikita, Dionne and others. Numbered “18/40 P.E.” (player’s edition), the litho has been double-matted and framed to full dimensions of roughly 35 ½” x 36”. A signed LOA from Jean Ratelle will accompany.
The additional signers include coach Sinden, deceased team members Bergman, Parise, Goldsworthy, Martin, Stapleton and assistant coach Ferguson, and Johnston, Ellis, Hull, Hadfield, Cashman, Seiling, White, Redmond, Awrey, Tallon, Guevremont, Glennie and the Mahovlich and Esposito brothers. We should also note that the lithograph has shifted within the matte and is currently somewhat crooked, with part of the Yvan Cournoyer signature covered.
