Iconically patrolling NHL bluelines throughout the 1950s/60s while earning six All-Star selections and four Stanley Cup championships, Bobby Hull once stated regarding Tim Horton, “There were defencemen you had to fear because they were vicious and would slam you into the boards from behind, for one, Eddie Shore. But you respected Tim Horton because he didn't need that type of intimidation. He used his tremendous strength and talent to keep you in check." Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a photo signed by the 1996 HOF inductee. At 5 ½” x 6” and picturing the affable Horton signing autographs for youngsters, his blue ink signature has been placed over the upper right, with “Best Wishes” added. Losing control of his De Tomaso Pantera on his way home to Buffalo after a game in Toronto late in February of 1974, Horton passed at just 44 years of age.
The signature displays nicely, with the “T” of “Horton” crossed twice, with this most likely done due to a weak pen. The photo itself exhibits some surface and edge wear along with toning, with “Horton Sportsmen Show” handwritten (likely the venue the image originates from), along with “Autographed Prince of Wales Arena May 19, 1965”.
