After leading the Montreal Canadiens to a deep playoff run in the spring of 1984, goalie Steve Penney wore this Habs gamer during his stellar rookie campaign in his first full NHL season in 1984-85. Penney finished third in ROY voting behind Calder Trophy winner Mario Lemieux and Habs teammate Chris Chelios. Penney’s No. 37 game-worn jersey has a sewn-on red/red/blue CCM logo patch with the asterisk that dates the jersey to 1984-85. It has eight team repairs in the Canadiens’ typical bullet-style circular stitching. Also included are Penney’s late-1980s Brown game-worn blocker and trapper gloves, each of which exhibit solid game wear.
Penney’s 1984-85 Canadiens game-worn jersey has a size 52 fly hanging inside the right side of the inner collar, which has no other tagging.
There are five team repairs on the left sleeve, including two on the white portion just below the numbers and three on the red material of the sleeve cuff. There are three team repairs grouped tightly together high on the right sleeve, on the white fabric just below the red shoulder yoke. More game wear includes areas of pilling inside both sleeves, light black marks on the front and back and a spot of red paint transfer on the lower left back.
