Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
As current Stanley Cup champions and with a respectable fourth place finish in 1940-41, the New York Rangers – led by captain Art Coulter – would take on the Red Wings in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, losing two games to one. The Rangers would improve the following season, finishing first overall. We have a mini-goal stick that has been team-signed by the 1940-41 Blueshirts. At approx 20” in length, the small and heavy one-piece mini-stick has “New York Rangers 1940-41” handwritten along one side of the shaft, with 19 signing in pencil including deceased HOFers Patrick, Hextall, Colville, Smith, Pratt, Coulter, coach Frank Boucher and manager Lester Patrick. The signatures display brilliantly, with each administered neatly in a single row on one side of the blade/paddle. Smith has signed twice, with one signature placed on the other side of the shaft.
The other signers include Watson, Colville, Shibicky, Pike, Hiller, Heller, NacDonald, Patrick, Kerr and trainer Harry Westerby. The stick itself shows no issues, and retains its original blond surface.
