Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020

Thoroughly asserting his dominance during his seventh NHL season, Mario Lemieux would score 45 points in just 26 games during the 1990-91 campaign, with the Conn Smythe earned as Super Mario led his Pittsburgh Penguins to the promise land, capturing Lord Stanley’s hardware for the franchise’s first championship. Captain’s jerseys from prominent Hall of Fame members worn during championship seasons rarely make themselves available, let alone specimens donned by one of the game’s all-time greatest.
This is the black road gamer Mario wore during the playoffs and was patched-up for the finals as a back-up jersey. This jersey is video-matched to game #5 of the 1991 Wales Conference Finals to the black mark on the left 6 of the sewn-on "66" in gold and white double twill on the back. The 1991 Stanley Cup Finals patch is sewn on the right breast of Lemieux's fabulous 1990-91 Penguins playoff game-worn captain's jersey. The Maska Ultrafil flag tag in the back of the neck has the faint 66 and "C" handwritten in black marker by Pens equipment manager Steve Latin. The fight strap has one snap button that is broken off but remains attached in the snap. Solid game wear includes three team repairs on the white stripe on the back of the right sleeve which also has some red paint transfer, as well as black marks on the sleeves and front tail, a light colored mark under the right arm. There are a couple of thread pulls on the Pens crest on the front. Worn by a living legend during the Penguins’ historic season of 1990-91, this fabulous Hall of Fame sweater will be accompanied by Joe Tomon’s signed LOA, with a DVD for the video-match.
