Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
One of only two hockey players to have his number retired by the Cornell Big Red, Ken Dryden has also received the honour from the Montreal Canadiens, with his famous #29 raised to the rafters, never to be worn again. We have a stick used by the iconic netminder, circa 1974-75. A preferred Sher-Wood model, “Dryden K.” and “29” are stamped onto the upper shaft, with both original striping accents in place over the paddle. The original white tape is intact on both the blade and knob, with some of the fiberglass wrap over the handle loose. Dryden has augmented the stick with an attractive blue ballpoint signature that has been placed over the upper shaft beneath the knob.
Great game use is exhibited on the desirable lumber, with heavy wear to the blade including cracking/breaks along the underside, with an additional crack/separation over the top edge of the paddle. There are also a number of cuts over the upper shaft, with a spot of white paint over the paddle. Small nicks are also visible through the tape on the backside of the blade, with this a common trait on Dryden gamers as he would strike the blade against his skate tips.
