Selected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999 - proof of his considerably large diamond status, Cal Ripken Jr was twice the American League’s MVP, with over 3,000 hits accumulated throughout his lengthy career along with 431 home runs and almost 1,700 RBIs. Best remembered for his iron man streak of surpassing Lou Gehrig’s 2,130 consecutive games played, Ripken would be recognized for the achievement, with HOF enshrinement occurring during his first year of eligibility. Hailing from the 1987-1988 labeling period, we have a Louisville Slugger bat that saw use in the World Series-champion’s competent hands. A solid black 35” F149 model with gold signature and barrel stampings, the bat exhibits great use, with ball and stitch marks over the left and reverse of the barrel, with the ball marks leaving blue ink transfers. Cleat marks are also visible over the left and right sides of the barrel as well as green bat rack streaks, with a crack on the upper handle secured with a 3” section of white tape. Graded GU 8.5 by PSA/DNA, a sticker from the authenticators numbered “1B13563” has been added over the top of the barrel, with a matching LOA to accompany.
