An American original, Mark Twain was a legendary writer and humorist who gave the world Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, and so much more. Born Samuel Langhorne Clemens in 1835, the Missouri native gained worldwide fame and left a lasting literary legacy beyond his death in 1910 through his chosen pen name. This magnificent framed display serves as a worthy tribute to Twain, who has signed "With great pleasure, truly yours, Mark Twain" on a cut that displays to 3 3/4" x 4 1/2" as it appears in a the upper right portion of the black matte with white accents. A JSA LOA for the black ink fountain pen signed cut accompanies the frame, which comes with an additional LOA for the framed display.
In addition to the Twain signed cut, the other LOA references the 1872 Samuel Langhorne Clemens “Mark Twain” wood engraving art on period paper displayed in the upper left of the framed display, and the 1910 Twain “When in doubt tell the truth” postcard in the bottom left of the frame. A Twain plaque in the bottom left corner displays the dates of his birth and death above a brief bio that notes he ‘was born shortly after a visit by Halley’s Comet, and he predicted that he would ‘go out with it’, too. He died the day after the comet returned.”
