Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018

Experiencing thorough use throughout a pair of seasons in the mid-to-late-1970s, we have a desirable-style “Blue Penguin” Pittsburgh Penguins photo-matched jersey that was worn by both Pierre Larouche and Peter Lee in 1977-78, recycled for Gary McAdam’s use in 1978-79. Stall & Dean labeling along with a “7” year tag and size “50” fly tag grace the collar, with laundering instructions placed adjacently. Featuring an intricately-embroidered and finely detailed Penguins team crest, the vintage mesh V-neck has been accented with two-tone tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with a heavy-knit lower band. A dual-garter style fight strap has also been utilized. Evidence of a pair of former nameplates is visible, with just the “6” over the sleeves and verso replaced to accommodate the change from the number “10” to “16”.
First resting on the back of Larouche, the jersey was then worn by Peter Lee after Pierre was traded to the Canadiens (Nov 29th 1977), with Lee donning the rare-style sweater for the remainder of the season. The sweater would then be called into use again the following season, worn by Gary McAdam – this time with the number “10” worn by both Larouche and Lee removed and changed to “16” for McAdam’s use. Wonderfully hammered, marks are present over the front, sleeves and team crest, with some fraying to the reverse “6”. There are also over 20 team repairs present, spread throughout the lower front and sleeves. Photo-matched to both Larouche and Lee, Getty Image #57199464 picturing Larouche has been matched to the fold in the team crest below the left hand glove. A pair of included numeric images picturing Lee have been matched to a number of loose threads, with one of the images also showing the fold in the team crest below the left hand glove.
