Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/16/2020
Each puck originally distributed by Hockey Diversified could be obtained by mail with the buyer’s choice of team and possibly player. A label was affixed to each puck listing the scorer, team and date, along with a code that divulged which team-goal said puck accounted for. This particular puck was used by HOF superstar Phil Esposito to score the Boston Bruins 18th playoff goal of the season, in Game 1 of the 1974 Stanley Cup semifinals, vs the Chicago Black Hawks, at Boston Garden, on April 18, 1974. Assisted by fellow HOF member Bobby Orr and Wayne Cashman, it was Espo’s 2nd goal of the 1974 playoffs and 39th of his career, with a total of 61 career playoff goals scored. The first goal of the contest scored on the power play at 6:40 of the first, Espo would also assist on the game-tying goal midway through the third, with the Hawks doubling-up on the Beantowners despite being heavily outshot, 48 to 24. Boston would end up taking the series in 6. The rubberized Bruins logo and Goal Puck Program label both remain fairly clean, with just very light wear to the puck including a few minor slices.
