Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Originating from his time in both the NHL and AHL with Carolina and Lowell respectively, we have an especially attractive and desirable signed goal mask worn by netminder Patrick DesRochers between 2002 and 2004, and it’s been photo-matched. A Warwick mask with labeling along the interior including handwritten date of “1/12/03”, all the padding and strapping is intact minus the added forehead piece, with a second interior label from mask artist Ray Bishop. A pair of lighthouses is featured on each side, along with a scroll over the chin and early bi-plane over the forehead section. DesRochers has signed the back headpiece in silver sharpie adding his number, and the signature displays well, with just a touch of loss from being handled.
We should note that DesRochers played for the AHL Springfield Falcons, NHL Phoenix Coyotes, AHL Lowell Lock Monsters and NHL Carolina Hurricanes in 2002-03, including a game played for the Hurricanes on 2003-03-12 (March 12th, 2003) vs Buffalo and on 2003-03-13 (March 13th, 2003) vs Philadelphia. He also played at least one pre-season game with the Hurricanes the following season along with 50 games played with the AHL Lowell Lock Monsters in 2003-04. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #52328943 is one of a half dozen photos showing him wearing that mask when the Hurricanes played the Flyers on March 13th, 2003, while Getty Image #2566006 from a September 19th 2003 pre-season game vs Panthers shows the white mark on the right ear side. Also included is a pair of 2004 Pacific Prospects AHL Edition cards showing DesRochers wearing the mask with the Lowell Lock Monsters, with the chip on the chin visible but not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match. The mask remains in beautiful condition, with expected wear along with some chipping to the paint/finish in spots, especially along edges.
