Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
Hailing from the 2005-06 season opener in Pittsburgh, we have a photo-matched Penguins jersey worn in the first period by legendary superstar Mario Lemieux, with the fans at the Igloo treated to an especially historic moment, as this was the first home contest Lemieux and Sidney Crosby appeared together! Super Mario would net a power play marker serving as his 684th career goal at 12:25 of the first while wearing the offered garment, adding a second goal in the 2nd while wearing a different jersey. A sewn-down label with “58” sizing and handwritten “66 C” is affixed to the collar, with Reebok and NHL crests over the reverse neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with a beautiful Penguins team crest with embroidered detailing, the black V-neck has been accented with oversized and layered tackle twill sleeve and verso numbers, with matching alternate patches on each shoulder along with the Cares Katrina Hurricane Relief crest over the right breast. The team patch sits over the inside hem, denoting the garment as a “Katrina Hurricane Relief” example.
Just light game-use is visible, with a few marks over the right cuff. Getty Image #55908314 from Oct 8th 2005 has been matched to; the white loose thread on the top left edge of the first "6" on the right sleeve; to the white loose thread on the middle left edge of the second "6" on the right sleeve; and to the two black stitch marks on the crookedly sewn-on NHL shield crest over the reverse hem.
