Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
A treasure trove of items that originate from late in the career of superstar HOF member Luc Robitaille, this lot offers a trio of sticks accompanied by a trio of gloves, along with a game-worn helmet. First, we have a pair of photo-matched Louisville TPS gloves from 2000-01, followed by a CCM solid black helmet worn with Los Angeles in 2005-06 during his final NHL season, a single glove from 2003-04 when transitioning from the Red Wings to the Kings, and a trio of sticks (Innovative and Warrior), with two examples that saw use in 2005-06 along with a single stick from 2003-04. We should also note that the stick from 2003-04 and one example from 2005-06 have earlier game-used blades from the mid-1990s that were later inserted into the sticks. A signed LOA from Luc Robitaille will accompany these wonderful items.
The TPS gloves are solid black with “Robitaille” embroidered over each wrist guard, with the tie strings intact and heavy use exhibited, with considerable rubbing to the leather in spots along with additional wear to each intact palm. Getty Image #729074 (February 4, 2001 NHL All-Star Game) has been matched to the wear pattern on the "S" of "TPS" on the cuff of the left glove, while Getty Image #657582 (Jan 6, 2001) has been matched to the wear pattern on the text "Louisville" and "HG1" on the right glove. The helmet features intact padding but no chin strap, with Kings decals over each side and “20” over the lower reverse, with an NHL decal near the right ear. There is also an Ace & Mark sticker on the left reverse, and we should note that the helmet was possibly worn by Robitaille while passing Dionne to become the Kings all-time leading scorer, but we were unable to find any matching photos. Great use is shown, with heavy wear to the material including scratches, marks and abrasions, with a bit of soiling to the interior padding and along the reverse neckline. The single glove was originally red and painted over in black for Robitaille’s return to the Kings, with “Robitaille” embroidered and heavy wear to the material throughout. The 2003-04 and 2005-06 Innovative sticks include an Inno 2000 model and 1100 model, with “Robitaille “ over the upper shaft of each, with no tape across the blade of the 1100 stick and the 1990s Christian blade with “Robitaille over the stem inserted into the Inno 2000 model as previously mentioned (heavy wear). The Warrior stick sports “Robitaille” factory graphics, with the original white tape over the inserted Christian blade from the 1990s, and white tape over the handle. The blade shows heavy use with nice wear to the shaft.
A portion of the sales from the Luc Robitaille personal collection will benefit the Echoes of Hope Foundation. Founded in 2007 by Stacia and Luc Robitaille, Echoes of Hope strives to awaken the spirit of hope in the lives of children, youth, and young adults in need by alleviating barriers and helping them reach their full potential.
