Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Spring 2023

A chance at a box of 1988-89 O-Pee-Chee unopened hockey card wax packs is offered here, with Brett Hull's rookie card long having been the '88-89 (264-card) set's key rookie card. It was Hull's meteoric rise up the goal-scoring charts back in the day that was in part responsible for fueling the popularity of speculating in the hockey card world, with the Hull rookie quickly ascending in value in price guides, swiftly going from something like $7 to $35. Of course, GEM MT 10s go for considerably more these days, with Shanahan, Nieuwendyk, Turgeon and Probert rookies also possible among the four dozen (7-card) packs housed in this box, with an image of Wayne Gretzky’s Topps issue (holding up his new Kings jersey) curiously appearing on a side panel. The folks at Baseball Card Exchange have recently checked/certified the packs and the company's shrink-wrap now encases the tempting brick, with BBCE stickers/labels on the bottom and partially covering the view of box bottom cards of Francis, Gretzky, LaFontaine and Smith. The box has some noticeable dings/wear to the corners and exhibits small creases on both the box bottom and top including through both the Gretzky and Smith cards with some scuffing through the Francis example as well but overall, this example remains in very nice condition and exhibits well. The die-cut area above the image of Mario Lemieux’s card is partially perforated, but all in all, an alluring unopened survivor.
