Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction Fall 2022

Some important rookie cards, and others, of the Topps variety are involved in this nifty hat trick of sets, with 1981-82 “East” and “West” and other cards adding up to a complete set of 198. Like the rest of the binder that houses the sets, sharp NM-or-better cards dominate, with however a few exceptions observed upon removal from the Ultra Pro pages of the key cards. A little bubble/imperfection affects Wayne Gretzky’s ’81-82 (#16) card in the top right corner, but RCs of Ciccarelli, Savard, Kurri, Stastny and Murphy average NM+. Steve Yzerman’s RC headlines a 165-card set from ’84-85, with a couple of very lightly touched bottom corners sending card #49 to just shy of NM, with black and white (ink) specks visible in and around Stevie Y’s head shot. A side-to-side print line across the Gretzky card is to note, with Lafontaine, Verbeek, Barrasso and Andreychuk contributing to the RC roster. Topps was back with another 165-card effort in ’85-86 and had Mario Lemieux highlighting it. The Mario RC here has multiple flaws, notably a wax stain on the back, a black mark in the right border, a bottom right corner ding and a few pinhead-size surface indentations – we’ll refrain from assigning a grade. Gretzky (NM-MT), Pelle Lindbergh (NM) and Yzerman (NM+)(MK) cards lead the rest, with a fun time to be had differentiating between all the NM, NM+, NM-MT, NM-MT+ and MINT representatives.
