Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Making his NHL debut in March of 1971 with his brother Dave guarding the opposition’s net, Ken Dryden earned the Conn Smythe Trophy for his playoff performance that season before winning the Calder Memorial as top rookie during his first full season, in 1971-72. Originating from the era, we have a Sher-Wood Ken Dryden game-issued rookie season stick. This is the type of model used by Dryden during the 1971 playoffs and 1971-72 campaign. A Sher-Wood Pattern Pro model with “Dryden” and “29” stamped to the upper shaft, most of the striping accents over the paddle are intact, along with the white tape over the knob and upper shaft. "26471" is also handwritten on the back edge of the paddle, with this possibly a date code for April 26th 1971. We should note that this is not the type of tape found over the knob on Dryden’s gamers, and with the blade tape removed, the stick is being listed as a game-issued example.
