Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021

Oh yes, some more neat stuff is involved here, with our consignor’s appreciation of autographs contributing to much of it. Five seasons of O-Pee-Chee hockey cards are represented, with each year missing either three or five or seven cards for completion and the cards stored in 9-pocket pages/binders. We spot intermittent condition issues throughout – overall, high grade ensembles are not to be expected – although the 1984-85 effort looks to be the sharpest. The key rookie card, that of Steve Yzerman is in a semi-rigid holder, with a Beckett Raw Card Review label/seal featuring a “7.0” grade. Other key rookies cards of fellow Hall of Famers Doug Gilmour and Chris Chelios are autographed, while a corner/edge ding sends an off-centered Cam Neely RC to VG-EX. Possibly on the want lists of some, an “Instant Winner” card (crease-free VG-EX) is a nifty complement, as are 11 other signed cards, led by Scott Stevens’ (multi-creased) example. Patrick Roy’s desirable rookie card headlines the ’86-87s and is graded 7.5 NM+ by KSA, with flaws indeed not obvious, while a Wendel Clark RC is one of three signed cards. A second-year Mario Lemieux (VG) and a low grade John Vanbiesbrouck RC are also notable. An interesting signing lineup from ’87-88 contributes to autographed rookie cards of Adam Oates (creased), Rick Tocchet, Vincent Damphousse and Stephane Richer, with corner dings affecting Luc Robitaille’s (not signed) rookie. There’s plenty of autograph representation from ’88-89 (30 cards), with a Brett Hull RC (EX) and cards of HOFers MacInnis, Gilmour and Mark Howe highlighting it, while interesting are 10 of 18 autographed examples from ’89-90 which feature members of the then-defending Stanley Cup champion Calgary Flames. Theoren Fleury’s RC and cards of Gilmour, MacInnis, Vernon, Roberts, Otto and others will bring back fond memories to Flames’ faithful. In summarizing the autographed segment, we count a total of 72 signed cards, with the following players joining some of the aforementioned in signing two or more of their cards: Mark Napier, Ken Wreggett, Wilf Paiement, Gary Suter, Brad Marsh, Allan Bester, Brian MacLellan, Joel Otto, Damphousse and Tocchet. Lots of options with this intriguing collection.
