Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
What an absolute thrill it is (with the same awaiting the new owner!) to hold and twirl around this amazing encapsulated piece from our consignor's amazing collection of unopened hockey cards. As you can see, you get to gaze at two of the four most valuable cards in Topps' 1968-69 issue, the first official Topps set that was distributed throughout the U.S. The cards of two Hall of Famers, Yvan Cournoyer and Johnny Bower, (the back of the latter showing on the bottom), join Bernie Parent's rookie card and the checklist in contributing to the eye candy, with the 36-card rack pack selling back in the day for 29 cents and this example graded NM 7 by GAI. We spot a dinged upper right corner on the Cournoyer card and, to a lesser extent, upper left on the Parent RC.
A vertical scratch in the upper right corner of the (crack-free) GAI holder is notable. Oh, the twirling fun - we wish we didn't have to move on, but know that more wonderful rarities/scarcities await.
