A wonderful rendition of Winnipeg native Andy Bathgate appears on his 1953-54 Parkhurst rookie card, with this attractive example recently earning and an alluring mark of NM 7 at PSA. For the second straight season in '53-54 Andy saw limited action but then arrived for good the following campaign and was quickly the Rangers' brightest shining star, leading the lowly New Yorkers to three straight playoff appearances, his career high 40 goals and 88 points earning him the Hart Trophy as league MVP in '58-59. Bathgate was top Ranger point-getter for eight consecutive seasons. Not a condition leader at PSA but still up there is this card #56, the Pop 27 joined by an equal amount of NM-MT 8s, with five MINT 9s and an 8.5 also showing up on the company's pop report. It informs of 180 Bathgate rookies, as of September, 2020, having been submitted for inspection to PSA since the firm's inception. In terms of importance/value among rookie cards, Bathgate's and Harry Howell's (tied) are second only to those of Jean Beliveau and Gump Worsley in Parkhurst's '53-54 issue.
