Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/21/2020
Longtime Toronto Maple Leafs’ blueliners Hap Day and Red Horner combine here in a delectable encapsulated duo, with Canadian Gum cards back in the day designed to have their letters cut off. Collectors who could spell the name of an NHL team could get a home hockey game, hence the (added) scarcity of intact cards. Scarce also are cards in this condition. The Day, at EX 5, is a Pop 3 on the PSA Population Report and is edged by just three others (37 total submissions). The Horner RC pictures the NHL’s bad boy of the 1930s (he led the league in penalty minutes a record eight straight years) and is slabbed VG-EX+ 4.5. It’s not a PSA leader but still also mighty appealing; eight similar cards are ahead of the Pop 2, with 34 submissions on record.
