Canada’s 2014 Olympic gold medal-winning men’s hockey team won each of its six games in Russia to deliver one of the most dominant championship performances in modern elite international hockey history. Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 in the gold medal final in Sochi, outscoring its opponents 17-3 to defend the Olympic title won on home ice four years earlier in Vancouver. Forward Ryan Getzlaf’s signed Team Canada game-worn third jersey with the Sochi 2014 patch sewn on the right rear hem is from a 6-0 preliminary win against Austria on February 14, specifically worn during the second and third periods. Getzlaf has represented Canada at numerous tournaments throughout his career including at the World Championships, World Cup of Hockey and Winter Olympics. A pair of LOAs will accompany including from Hockey Canada.
The COC patch is glued on the right sleeve and IIHF tagging is sewn in the back of the neck, which displays screened Nike logo, size 62 and “Made in Canada”. There are 12 gold maple leafs on the inside edge of the front collar, behind the screened faux-tie-front-laces. The jersey has its fight strap, and Nike's inventory bar code heat-pressed into the inner rear hem. Inspired by memorable vintage Team Canada jerseys, this black third jersey was designed to inspire Canada’s Olympians to win again. The advanced polyester/spandex fabric used makes for a remarkably lightweight jersey which has an approximate weight of 448 grams and is made from 73 percent recycled polyester as part of Nike's commitment to produce performance apparel with reduced environmental impact. Each jersey is made from up to 17 recycled plastic water bottles! The fight strap is intact and a long laundry instruction fly tag is sewn into the inside of the left seam. A glued-on double-twill gold-and-white maple leaf is on the left sleeve with gold piping and a Canadian Olympic Committee logo twill patch is glued on the right sleeve. Rubberized maple leafs are applied around the collar. White twill surname letters are glued onto a sewn-on nameplate while the white-and-red twill numbers on sleeves and back are sewn on. The bold white twill "Canada" is glued on with gold piping and was to remind the world of Canada's hockey heritage while the gold piping on the badges and gold maple leaf on the shoulder was to remind the world of Canada's goal to win gold medals in Sochi. Game-wear is light, with some wear to the material over the front. Getzlaf has signed the reverse “5” in thin black marker, adding “2014 Gold”, with a hologram affixed beneath for the signature.
