Founded in 1948 as the Pacific Coast Hockey League and adopting the WHL moniker in 1952, the Western Hockey League featured west coast Canadian and American clubs competing for the Lester Patrick Cup. Hailing from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a group of 5 multi-signed 1950s programs from WHL clubs including the 1955-56 Winnipeg Warriors, 1956-57 Seattle Americans, 1958-59 Edmonton Flyers, 1954-55 New Westminster Royals and 1953-54 Calgary Stampeders. There is also an unsigned 1968 oldtimers program for a Montreal Oldtimers vs Western Oldtimers match with Rocket Richard cover.
The breakdown for the five programs is as follows; 1955-56 Winnipeg Warriors – signed on the cover by 15 in dark ink including HOFers Bill Mosienko (near his image) and Fred Shero, along with Alf Pike and Barry Cullen (the 1956 WHL Rookie of the Year), with the signatures dark and light wear to the program; 1956-57 Seattle Americans – signed on the cover by 16 in blue ballpoint including HOFer Emile Francis, with light wear to the program including a vertical fold; 1958-59 Edmonton Flyers – signed by 17 on the cover in blue ballpoint including Ed Johnston, Murray Oliver and Metro Prystai, with moderate wear to the program including a cover tear; 1954-55 New Westminster Royals – signed on the cover by 18 in ballpoint including Guyle Fielder, Gordon Fashoway and Fred Saskamoose, with the cover detached and moderate to heavier wear; 1953-54 Calgary Stampeders - signed by 17 on the cover in blue ballpoint, with the front cover partially detached and the rear cover completely detached.
