Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/23/2021
A member of the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War, Bobby Bauer spent his entire NHL career in Beantown with the Bruins and would capture the Lady Byng Trophy as the league’s most gentlemanly player an impressive three times. Originating from the incomparable autograph collection of E. Robert Hamlyn, we have a handwritten and signed letter from the 1996 HOF inductee accompanied by a handwritten signed postcard. At approx 7 ¼” x 10 ¼”, the 1941 correspondence has Bauer mentioning sending a few programs in lieu of a signed photo, with the blue ballpoint signature unimprovable. The postcard is dated June 15, 1941, with lengthy pencil text added along with a simple “Bobby Bo” autograph. Bauer would leave us at the youthful age of 49 in 1964.
The letter has just the top edge folded with wear and minor discolouration, with the date hidden, with holes added for binder insertion. The postcard shows moderate wear including clear tape and holes also added for binder insertion.
