Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
A true journeyman in every sense of the term, Len “Comet” Haley would appear for no less than a dozen different leagues during his quarter-century tenure and skate in almost 1500 games, including just 30 contests over two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings at the close of the 1950s. The first of its kind we have ever handled, we have a Medicine Hat Tigers captain’s wool sweater worn by Haley circa 1949-51, and it was originally acquired from the Edmontonian. A Unique label remains attached to the collar, with the vintage wool garment measuring-out to roughly a modern size 44. Featuring “Tigers” across the chest in stylized script and administered in thick felt along with the captain’s “C”, the verso is styled with a large “7” in matching material. Sporting a few small holes on the collar along with a few larger examples over the front and upper reverse, there is also a rust-coloured stain beneath the front neckline. Team repairs are also abundant, with examples fully covering each elbow section, as well as the lower reverse and right seam. 2 photos of Haley wearing this sweater will be posted on our website.
