Magnificent 1968-69 Vancouver Canucks WHL Lester Patrick Cup champions 10-karat gold and diamond ring represents WHL title won by a powerful squad boasting HOFer Andy Bathgate and Don Cherry, Bryan Hextall Jr. and Charlie Hodge, among others. “Lester Patrick Champions 1969” is spelled out on the bezel surrounding the diamond set in the middle of the starburst setting on the oblong tableau. Weighing approximately six grams, it was recently obtained from the son of Canucks coach Joe Crozier and his wife, Marjorie, and comes with a copy of the letter of provenance. “John Roberts 10K” is stamped inside the size 6 band, which displays the engraved initials “MLC” for Joe’s wife, Marjorie Lorraine Crozier.
The ring displays proud wear in the form of various scratches to the band and light smoothing to the lettering on the bezal and retains nice details. The Lester Patrick Cup was the championship trophy of the Pacific Coast Hockey League and the Western Hockey League (WHL) from 1949 to 1974. Originally known as the Phil Henderson Cup, it was renamed the President's Cup in 1952 before it renamed again in 1960 to honor Pacific Coast hockey pioneer Lester Patrick following his death on June 1 of that year. The Lester Patrick Cup was retired following the demise of the WHL and is on display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
