Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Dominating by winning almost 25 percent of the total medals won at the 1936 Olympic Games including 33 gold, the host Germans under the leadership of Adolf Hitler built a number of state-of-the-art venues for the multi-sport event, with this the first Olympic Games to feature the now iconic torch relay from Olympia in Greece to the host venue. We have a pair of highly desirable “Olympia” albums from the Games, with a complete set of affixed All Reemstra cigarette picture cards. Each 9 ¾” x 12 ½” volume is in German text, with embossed stamps and a handwritten name over each first page by a previous owner. Featuring wonderful photos of participants including action images, the Canadian Olympic hockey team is included, along with notable athletes Sonja Henie and Jesse Owens. There is also an interesting photo of a number of athletes at the grandstand getting signatures from Nazi officials, including what appears to be a hockey player receiving an autograph from Hitler. Both volumes show wear to the spines and rubbing to the boards, with some mild toning and foxing to interior pages, with a few small tears also visible.
