Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Ravishing red composite game stick issued for use by Wayne Gretzky circa 2003-04. Wayne was with the Coyotes during this period but had not yet began his NHL coaching career. He did, however, use this style at events such as his Fantasy Camp and photo reference proves he was using this exact model when he took part in the first Heritage Classic. “Gretzky 99” graphic decorate the shaft and there is a rubber handle at the knob end. Although the blade is bare of any taping, we do spot contact marks and there is evidence of light wear along the shaft. This stick has been specially customized with a code written on the butt end and a small hologram sticker added by our consignor.
The 2003 Heritage Classic Mega Stars game, held in Edmonton on November 22, 2003, pitted the Edmonton Oilers alumni against former members of the Montreal Canadiens, was a crowd-pleaser to be sure! How wonderful to see Wayne holding one of these red TPS gamers while posing with Mark Messier and Guy Lafleur at center ice in a photo opportunity for the ages.
