Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
"Fantastic" and "poor" are two adjectives which come to mind here, with the former describing the lineup of pre-war stars depicted in World Wide Gum's famous "Ice Kings" card set of 1933-34 and the latter summing up the condition. The letter "C" is stamped in the upper left corner of just about all cards, with an additional letter or two stamped elsewhere on the fronts of some. A letter or two written in pencil was attempted to be erased on many, resulting in paper loss in several instances. Pencil writing (letters, numbers) on the backs is joined at times by writing in ink, while creases, heavy at times, and rounded corners are also to be aware of. A positive is that almost all of the (bilingual) text on the backs is legible and of course, intriguing to read, plunging one back to the '33-34 season. The images of ice kings Morenz, Joliat, Clancy, Day, Stewart, Howe, Primeau, Bailey, Horner, Clapper, the Cook brothers, Siebert, Worters, Weiland and others, along with their stories, sure are thought-provoking. You'll enjoy handling the ancient cardboard and reading about the exploits of these legends. Missing is card #52-Duguid.
