Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
The highest office attainable in the United States, it is often said that the US president is the most powerful man alive, with the signatures of these “powerful” individuals heavily desired by an endless array of collectors. We have a wonderful grouping of presidential signatures, including examples from Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, along with a few other associated autographs including Hillary Clinton, Barbara Bush, Ruth Carter Stapleton and Al Gore. The majority of the signatures appear on letterhead, and have been scripted in varying inks. Addendum from printed catalog; The Jimmy Carter is a secretarial signature.
First, the Richard Nixon signature appears on a small 4” x 5” “The Memoirs of Richard Nixon” notepad page, with a personalization added along with the date of “9-12-82”. Scripted in fiber-tip marker, both the signature and notepad page itself remain in excellent condition. The Ford signature appears on a small 3 ¼” x 4 ¾” sheet with presidential seal and “Gerald R. Ford”, with the small sheet mounted by way of corner holders to a large 8 ½” x 11” cardstock sheet. Dark and bold, the signature and sheet have no issues. Next, the Bush signature appears on a typed letter on George Bush stationary similar to Carter, with the date listed of “April 26, 1993”. At roughly 6 ¼” x 8 ¾”, the black fiber-tip marker signature displays well, with the Barbara Bush signature on similarly sized and decorated stationary, with a small note handwritten by the first lady along with a perfect blue ink signature, with no issues for the note itself. The Al Gore signature has been placed on a photocopied 8 ½” x 11” invitation on Max Baucus (Montana) United States Senate letterhead, with Gore signing along the bottom in ballpoint, adding a personalization, with a 4” x 6” colour photo included showing Gore signing this invitation. Another typed and signed letter follows for the Hillary Clinton signature, with an 8 ½” x 11” letter on “Bill Clinton for President Committee” letterhead dated June 5th 1992. Signed just “Hillary” in dark ink, the page exhibits a fold line along with some minor wear including a few small indentations. Lastly, the Ruth Carter Stapleton appears on her personal stationary with her image, with this particular typed letter dated Nov 28th 1978. Signing just “Ruth” in dark ink, the letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope, with just expected fold lines to mention. Ruth Carter Stapleton was the sister of Jimmy Carter, well known for her evangelical work.
The Jimmy Carter secretarial signature is on typed letter on official Jimmy Carter 6 ½” x 8 ½” letterhead dated Feb 11th 1983, with the original postmarked mailing envelope included along with a small “Vote for Jimmy Carter” postcard.
