Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Loaded with considerable talent including veterans Maurice Richard, Bill Durnan, Elmer Lach and team captain Butch Bouchard, we have a desirable team-signed goal stick featuring the 1949-50 Montreal Canadiens. A CCM “Special” decal-model goal stick – a prize in its own right to vintage stick collectors, “14” appears stamped-on, with the decal appearing completely intact on one side of the paddle. Void of it’s striping accent over the handle, two small hooks have been added to facilitate display, with 19 signing across one side of the paddle and shaft in ballpoint including deceased HOFers Irvin, Richard, Bouchard, Lach, Reardon ($1000.00)and Bill Durnan, with a dedication from the goaltender on the paddle including “with good luck to”. A JSA LOA will accompany.
Others who have signed include Reay, Mosdell, Riopelle, Fillion, Dussault, Curry, MacKay and Gerry McNeil. The signatures display well with very little to no fading, with the stick itself remaining in excellent condition with light wear. We should also note the history to the “Kenny $1000 Reardon” signature. A feud began in 1947 between Reardon and Cal Gardner when Reardon was cross-checked in the mouth by the Rangers centerman. Reardon would reap revenge during the 1949 season, breaking Gardner’s jaw at The Forum, causing NHL president Clarence Campbell to take action, forcing Reardon while he was on the ice to post a $1,000 bond against future violence.
