Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
The witness to over half a century of Red Wings games along with the city’s earlier namesakes, the Detroit Olympia hosted its first contest in 1927 when the visiting Senators from Ottawa battled the Detroit Cougars. This Detroit Olympia seat has been signed by Motor City legend Gordie Howe, and it’s completely original, resplendent in its crimson red finish. Standing just over 33” in height, the plush leather seat back and covering remain in gorgeous tear-free condition. Howe has signed along the left side of the seat back in black marker adding “Mr Hockey”, and the signature is flawless. With painted wooden arm rests and curved Art Deco metal sides, this Motown relic will please even the most discerning of collectors.
A white stenciled “9” is centered on the front edge of the seat, while the matching location designator at the seat’s summit remains faded but visible. Expected wear is present along the bottom of each side, along with additional wear to the left arm rest. There is also a blemish to the seat cushion, with gum affixed to the back of the seat.
