George Hainsworth, Edouard "Newsy" Lalonde, Harry Cameron and the Cook brothers, Bill and Bun - all Hall-of-Famers - stand out in this original team photo of the 1923-24 Saskatoon Crescents. This fantastic vintage team portrait measures approximately 10" x 14" and the original print is mounted in a cream matte and presented in a 15" x 19" wood frame. The majority of the print is in very good condition, though the far left side has significant surface damage through the three players pictured on the far left, including Cameron. There is also a two-inch horizontal tear from the right edge of the print through the feet of the manager, with some other minor creasing present as well.
We should also note that 2 pieces of paper have been affixed to the reverse, listing all the player's pictured. Lalonde was a member of the original Montreal Canadiens team that began play in the NHA in 1909-10 and was the team’s leading scorer during the 1915-16 season when the Habs went on to win their first Stanley Cup. Hainsworth, who would go on to win back-to-back Cups with the Canadiens in 1930 and 1931, debuted with Saskatoon in 1923-24 and posted four shutouts in the team’s 30-game WCHL schedule. Bill Cook led the league with 26 goals in 29 games and Laurie Scott scored 20 while appearing in all 30 games.
