Fresh-off their first decade of competing in the NHL, the New York Rangers would advance to their fifth Stanley Cup Final in 1937, after beating both the Maroons and Maple Leafs to advance. A number of prominent HOFers dressed for the Blueshirts this season, most notably Bill Cook, Art Coulter and Ching Johnson. We have a team-signed sheet from this very season, signed by 16 including 7 deceased HOFers. At 8 ½” x 11”, the cream-coloured Rangers letterhead features an embossed image of MSG, with two columns of signatures, with “1936-37 NY Rangers” handwritten above. Completely fashioned in fountain pen, the 7 deceased HOFers who have signed are Boucher, Colville, Pratt, Coulter, Johnson, Lynn Patrick and Bill Cook.
The remaining 9 signatures have been penned by Dillon, Watson, Keeling, Shibicky, Heller, Murdoch, Cooper, Kerr and Mac Colville. The signatures all display beautifully, with the examples from Coulter, Murdoch, Johnson, Pratt and Lynn Patrick exemplary, and possibly some of the best we’ve seen from these individuals. The sheet itself exhibits toning along with expected fold lines with some light tape and glue residue on verso, most likely from a former scrapbook mounting. The top left corner has also been torn away.
