Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
With the unfortunate passing of Mr Hockey this past June, we are pleased to bring to collectors this neat little group of items that all pertain to Gordie Howe. Totaling 6, we have two signed displays including a framed example, a signed puck, a Howe-endorsed skate sharpener in its original packaging and a pair of vintage publications that feature cover images of the iconic legend. 1) Special Olympics signed and framed display. A Special Olympics mini-shirt has been signed by Howe with his Mr Hockey moniker, and it’s been matted and framed with a photo and name plaque to full dimensions of roughly 17” x 21”. The signature has faded slightly, while the frame does exhibit a few light scratches. 2) Limited-edition Hockey Wit signed poster. Howe is pictured in his Red Wings sweater, with “Hockey Wit” in the bottom left hand corner along with the handwritten notation of “#29/500”. Howe has signed in the upper left portion adding “Mr Hockey”, and the signature displays beautifully. The poster itself is roughly 22” x 31”, and it’s been dry mounted. There are a few creases and surface indentations present, along with some heavier wear to the corners. The backing is also loose in a number of spots. 3) Gordie Howe skate sharpener. Produced by F.C. Cross Enterprises, the package features an image of Howe, with “Autographed Sharpener” along the bottom. The original price tag remains affixed, and it shows a list price of $1.29. With just light wear to the packaging and toning to the reverse, the item is in very good condition. 4) Gordie Howe signed puck. Produced by Trench, the face features the 1994 All-Star Game logo, with Howe signing along the bottom border in blue fiber-tip marker. The signature displays well, while the puck remains in excellent condition with just light toning to the label. 5) Canadiens Sportive Magazine with Gordie Howe cover. Large and perfect for display at 9” x 12”, the circa-1968 publication features a cover image of Howe slipping the puck past Gump Worsley. A few surface indentations are present, along with some light wear to the spine and top edge. 6) Canadian Boy magazine with Gordie Howe cover. Issued to Boy Scouts, the 8 ¼” x 11 ¼” publication hails from 1969 and is complete at 34 pages. A mailing label remains affixed along the bottom right side, with wear to the spine along with an edge tear along the top of the spine. A COA for the signed Special Olympics mini-shirt will accompany.
