Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
The year 2004 saw Jacques Villeneuve on the sidelines when the season began, as a contract dispute saw him replaced by Jenson Button at BAR. Jacques sat out almost the entire season until he was called to replace Jarno Trulli for the last three races with the Mild Seven Renault F1 team. At season’s end Jacques announced that he would be returning to Formula 1 on a full-time basis with the Sauber Petronas team in 2005.
Jacques’ return for 2005 started early and this helmet, a Bell K1, is photo-matched to a pre-season test session at the Jerez Circuit in Spain on February 9th 2005. The helmet was painted by Bell Racing Europe in Jacques' traditional paint scheme and is tagged 2004-02. The complete race radio remains intact as well the helmet has the Hans clips affixed to the sides. Some of the air vents have been covered and as with all Jacques' helmets extra eye-port foam has been added. During the testing session the team and Jacques added a wicker to the back of the helmet using tape; this can be clearly seen in photos. The helmet shows great wear and use inside and out with a number of small chips in the paint. A pair of tear-offs remain attached to the race visor and Villeneuve applied his signature to the top one. Also included is the original Bell carrying bag with “2004-02” handwritten annotations. This item is from Jacques Villeneuve’s personal collection and will come with his signed LOA.
