Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2015

American defenseman Dennis Vaske’s 1997-98 New York Islanders game-worn jersey is that hybrid style from the third and final season of the team’s ill-advised color scheme change. Gone for good in that season was the Fisherman logo as the Islanders traditional crest was worn on the front of this gamer. Islanders equipment manager Joe McMahon added “97-98 #5” to his black marker signature on the inside of the jersey behind the team crest sewn on the front. CCM Goalie Style and size 56 flag tags hang in the back of the neck. CCM and NHL logos are embroidered on the right rear hem. The fight strap was sewn over by stitching from the bottom of the stylized “2” sewn on the back in white, orange and aqua twill. Game wear shows in marks on the front tail and left hip, and board burns on the sleeves. Vaske’s season was limited to 19 games as he suffered his third concussion. This gamer is from his eighth and final campaign with the Islanders. Vaske played three games with Boston in 1998-99 before retiring because of his injuries at the age of 31.
